The Pharma Files: A Newsletter + Podcast

The Pharma Files are case-file stories exploring medical mysteries and the stranger chapters in medicine’s past—where hope, hype, and human judgment collide.

Where Medicine Meets Mystery.

Read and subscribe to the biweekly newsletter at Substack.

The companion podcast expands on each newsletter.

Narrated by fictional investigators Lance Simard and Justine Burke, each episode examines how medical consensus forms, how it changes, and what abandoned or misunderstood therapies still reveal about modern medicine.

Poison Pills: A Short Story

My short story Poison Pills won first place in the Writer’s Digest 94th Annual Writing Competition (short story category). With more than 3,800 entries across all categories, this recognition marks my first piece of fiction to be published.

The story blends my background in science with my love of crime fiction—a reminder of how science and storytelling can collide in surprising ways.

Poison Pills appears in the Nov/Dec 2025 issue of Writer’s Digest and is also available to read online here.

My short story Poison Pills was selected as a finalist in the 2025 PNWA short story contest.

Science & Storytelling

Stories have the power to reveal hidden truths beneath the surface of everyday life. As a writer of biomedical thrillers, I craft narratives that blur the line between fiction and reality. These stories are inspired by real-world scientific breakthroughs, controversies, and ethical dilemmas.

By embedding real scientific principles within the twists and turns of my plots, I strive to make my readers feel the tension of high-stakes research, the ethical tightropes walked in pharmaceutical labs, and the ripple effects of breakthroughs that change lives—for better or worse.

But my ultimate goal? To make readers walk away entertained and a little more informed, without realizing they’ve learned something. I believe the best kind of learning is the one that sneaks up on you, disguised as an adrenaline rush. That’s the experience I aim to create: an immersive fiction that keeps readers on the edge of their seats while quietly expanding their understanding of the science.

Each story I write is a blend of fact and imagination, driven by the thrill of what if?

A question that science and storytelling have in common.

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
